Laundromat Etiquette

First rule of Laundromat etiquette is to be courteous to others. A little kindness goes a long way and will make you feel better at the end of the day

Stay with your laundry: If you leave your clothes, then it's fair game for someone else to take them out. If you need to leave then be prompt. Keep track of the wash time and return promptly, transfer your wet clothes to a dryer. Keep track of the dry time and return promptly, retrieve your clothes when they have finished drying.

Laundry Basket: Using a laundry basket makes it easier to transport and transfer clothes. Leave the basket on top of the washer so that if you are late in retrieving your clothes, the next person can remove your clothes and put them in your basket.

Give the Courtesy Five: Wait at least five minutes for someone to come and get her stuff out of the machine. If the wash or dry cycle is finished, but the person has not returned, then put their clothes in their basket or on the counter.

No Dryer-Hogging: Customers tend to under load dryers. They often divide their wet clothes into as many dryers as possible to speed up the drying process. In fact, smaller loads take longer to dry and this behavior often creates a bottleneck. This practice is very rude and can result in very nasty arguments.

No ‘Holding’ Dryers: Some customers have been known to ‘hold’ a dryer by putting a single sock or towel in it and leave it to continuously dry while their clothes are still washing. This also is very rude and discourteous to others and can result in an argument.

Fill Out the Complaint Card: Please take the time to fill out the complaint card if you have an issue with a machine. You’d be surprised at how many Laundromats will not only send you a refund for your trouble but, they will actually fix the problem whatever it may be.
